“It’s easier to keep going than it is to get started.” – Paul McKenna

Galileo coined it the law of inertia. Newton made it his first law of motion. No matter what you call it, the truth of the matter is that this law applies to more than just physics. It applies to life.

Think for a moment about how hard it is to break a habit. Or think about how hard it is to form a new habit. Starting something new, is always harder than to keep going. There are many reasons for this.

As we start something new, we have not yet build the experience or gained the confidence in our ability. And there is a real physical element to that in our synaptic neurochemistry. The more we repeat something the stronger the synaptic connections for that task become in our brain and it literally does get easier! Repeat it enough and it becomes a habit. And as we all know a strong habit is very difficult to break.

So we can apply this to everything from prospecting to our health to the way we think. If we tend to think negative or get depressed easily it’s because we have reinforced those neural pathways. The key is to strengthen the thoughts and actions we choose to create the kind of patterns that will be beneficial to us.

I’ll end this post with one more quote…

”It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” – Confucius
